- Embrace the New Moon in Cancer With Tarot
With the astrological event just around the corner, I thought writing a New Moon in Cancer Tarot spread guide would be great. The New Moon in Cancer will be on the 28th of June this year. It is the perfect time to focus on your emotions and relationships with other people. By using Tarot readings on the night of the new moon, you can connect with the universe and gain guidance and understanding.
These spreads are designed to be read during the night of the new moon. I would recommend a moment for meditation before reading the cards. Take a moment to ask the new moon to help guide the reading. In this guide, I will be using the Modern Witch Tarot Deck by Lisa Sterle, but any Tarot deck will do!
New Moon in Cancer Tarot Spreads Up Front
I have included two different spreads in this guide. My favorite one is the New Moon in Cancer family and friends spread. It allows the gentle nature of the New Moon in Cancer to provide us with guidance and support. This helps us make our relationships with those around us the best they can be! The second spread included examines what we can learn from the New Moon in Cancer regarding our emotions.
What is the New Moon in Cancer all About?
Before I get into the Tarot spreads, I want to take a moment to discuss the importance of astrological signs and the lunar cycle.
The different moon phases can help us with different aspects of our lives. The energy of the new moon allows us to refresh our outlook on life, and leave anything in the past that we need to. It is the beginning of a new lunar cycle, and with this, we can look toward the future and the upcoming month. It is a time of thanking the universe for its support and asking it to help us move forward.
The New Moon being in Cancer means that this month’s focus is all about family and emotions. The star sign of Cancer is an intuitive water sign. Those born with this star sign are usually sensitive and in touch with their emotions. They tend to put their loved ones first. Because this star sign is ruled by the moon, the New Moon in Cancer is a really powerful astrological event.
New Moon in Cancer Emotions Tarot Spread
Let’s begin with a Tarot spread that delves into our emotions. In the lunar cycle, we have recently had the Full Moon in Sagittarius. This is a time full of energy of travel, enjoyment, and adventure. This can mean that we feel a little bit wiped out, with our energy drained. However, the gentle nature of the New Moon in Cancer provides us with time to focus on our emotional wellbeing.
In this five-card Tarot spread, we use the New Moon in Cancer to understand our emotions. We can pinpoint any issues that need to be addressed.
The five cards pulled in this spread refer to:
- Card one: Emotions I am feeling
- Card two: Emotions I am ignoring
- Card three: What is bringing me down right now
- Card four: What I am happy about right now
- Card five: Advice from the New Moon in Cancer
Let’s go through this spread with an example. I will pick five cards for myself, and see what the New Moon in Cancer wants to tell me!
Emotions I am Feeling
For the first card, which represents the emotions I am feeling, I have received the Death card. Now, the Death card is largely misunderstood! When reading for other people and pulling out the Death card, the querent always seems super worried. However, I get excited when I pull out the Death card! It represents rebirth and renewal and shows us that we are going through a serious change in life right now. Life is all about change and growth, and therefore the Death card always shows us that we are on the right track.
So, what does it mean in this position? Well, I understand it to be my emotions changing, and me embracing this. I have feelings of rebirth and change, as I have recently tackled my emotions towards past events head-on, allowing me to feel these emotions more. This is then allowing me to move forward, which is represented by the Death card.
Emotions I am Ignoring
For the second card, which represents the emotions I am ignoring, I have received the Magician. The Magician reflects willpower and manifestation. Because of this, I was a bit confused about what the card meant in this specific position. There are emotions I am ignoring, and the Magician represents this. Could I be ignoring my emotions of magic and personal power? Do I deny my strength? Perhaps my feelings of self-doubt need to be tackled.
What is Bringing me Down Right Now?
For the third card, which represents what is bringing me down right now, I have received the Eight of Wands. This card reflects moving forward with speed. I think it makes sense why it has appeared in this position. I love to write creative stuff, such as short stories and poetry, but it is a slow process to get things published. This does bring me down, as I start to doubt myself and my talent. I wish I was moving forward quickly, but I’m not! When reading this card, I wonder if this links back to the Magician card. Because this aspect of my life is bringing me down, I am doubting myself and my skills and abilities. However, I am not tackling these emotions. Am I ignoring them and hoping they go away?
What I am Happy About Right Now
For the fourth card, which reflects what I am happy about right now, I have received the Knight of Cups. A very romantic card, I know why this card has appeared! I am currently in a nice relationship, which is supportive and fun. Of course, this is making me pretty happy!
Advice from the New Moon in Cancer
So, what does the New Moon in Cancer have to tell me regarding my emotions? For the fifth card, I have received the High Priestess. This card represents inner wisdom and intuition. I think it is a nice card to receive on a New Moon in Cancer spread. The New Moon is reminding me of my strength and wisdom, and the knowledge I have deep down. Could the High Priestess be an answer to my worries that have appeared in the Magician and the Eight of Wands? I am doubting myself, but not tackling these emotions. However, the High Priestess reminds me of my personal power, and how my spirituality can help me on my journey.
New Moon in Cancer Family and Friends Spread
This five-card spread allows you to understand your interpersonal relationships better. The New Moon in Cancer is linked heavily to care and support, reminding us of the importance of nurture. Sometimes we find it difficult to overcome issues with our friends and family. However, the New Moon asks us to leave what we can in the past, and move forward with care and hope.
The five cards pulled in this spread refer to:
- Card one: What you bring to those around you
- Card two: Any issues in your relationships that need addressing
- Card three: Advice from the New Moon in Cancer
- Card four: Your positive actions
- Card five: Your negative actions
The first card reminds you of the good that you bring to those in your life. The second card will highlight any interpersonal issues that you need to leave behind you. The third card is an action card that is linked to the second. What does the New Moon in Cancer tell you to fix these issues?
The fourth and fifth cards are general. They represent how your actions in the world affect those around you.
Let’s do a Tarot spread to understand how we might interpret different cards in this spread.
What you Bring to Those Around you
For the first card, which represents what I bring to those around me, I have received the Page of Cups. Now, this is a Court Card, and this means that we can understand it in a few different ways. It may represent you, someone you know, or influence or advice. However, because of its position in this reading, I think it is pretty obvious how to read it! The Page of Cups represents me, and what I bring to those around me. The Page of Cups is a creative and excited person, with youthful energy. I relate to this, as I believe that life is all about having fun. I try my best to enjoy life, and I want those around me to enjoy life, too.
Any Issues in your Relationships that Need Addressing
For the second card, which reflects any issues within my relationships that I need to address, I have received the Ten of Wands. This is a card all about burdens and the strain that responsibility brings. So, how can I understand the Ten of Wands in this position?
Now, I love to be a helping hand to those in my life. I pride myself on being there for my loved ones, day or night, every day of the week. Whenever my friends or family have issues, I want to provide them with support and advice. But, could this be becoming a problem? I don’t feel the strain right now, but perhaps in the past, I have. I believe this card to be a reminder to me that if I take on too much, I will begin to have issues with those in my life.
Advice from the New Moon in Cancer
So, what is the advice from the New Moon in Cancer regarding these issues? So, we know that helping everyone I can in my life can potentially strain me. But what should I do about this for this issue not to happen in the future?
Well, in this position I have received the Hanged Man. I like this card, as it is all about pausing and reflecting, and seeing things from different perspectives. The New Moon in Cancer is telling me that I need to pause and consider the situation from different perspectives. I am supporting those around me for them, not for myself. If my friends need me, I need to support them and put them first! However, I also need to make sure that I am not feeling strained, as this can impact how I help them.
Your Positive Actions
For the fourth card, which represents how my positive actions affect those in my life, I have received the Page of Swords. Another Page! I think that is pretty interesting, right?
The Page of Swords has similar youthful energy as the Page of Cups, but with more emphasis on knowledge and ideas. The Page of Swords is curious, and I have this curiosity within me. This energy means that my new ideas bring happiness and positivity to those in my life.
Your Negative Actions
For the fifth card, which reflects my negative actions that affect those in my life, I have received the Nine of Wands. This is a card all about standing your ground and persevering through hard times. Now, the Nine of Wands is typically seen as a positive card. However, in this position, we can understand it a little differently. When we receive a positive card in a negative position, we can read it in a few different ways. The Tarot might be telling us that we lack the energy of the specific card. Or, it might suggest that we have too much of this energy, and it is becoming an issue.
So, with the Nine of Wands, we can understand it as telling me that I don’t stand up for myself, or, that I might be a bit too stubborn and defensive! I know myself, I know that I will always say what I am thinking, and have no issues with defending my beliefs and who I am. So, could the Tarot be telling me that I can be a bit too defensive with those around me? This makes sense. I love to discuss politics and philosophy with my friends, and sometimes, I can be a bit argumentative! My friends have brought this up to me, so I know that this side of me is something I need to work on.
